First World War — Leicestershire's heroes

Welcome to Leicestershire’s roll of honour, a unique commemoration of those who gave their lives in the First World War.

It’s an unprecedented portrait of the losses suffered by a single British county, produced in a groundbreaking collaboration with the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. It was created in 2008 to mark the 90th anniversary of the end of this bloody conflict.

There are almost 5,000 names on the roll, including three women. Each and every one with hopes and ambitions for a future that never came.

You can pay tribute to them by adding your memories and pictures and helping us build a more complete picture of Leicestershire’s sacrifice.
